DESIGNER DIVA IN PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE.

It is not surprising that Neeta Kumar displayed an early propensity for design given that she was born and raised in Hyderabad into a family that has been in the furniture business for more than fifty years. Her father and four siblings are all involved in furniture, home furnishings, and design businesses.

"Design" for me is a belief that comes from my very being

She developed her love for design and furniture after receiving her Master's in Business Administration by taking a degree in product and furniture design at Central St. Martins and Chelsea College of Art and Design (UK), as there weren't many universities in India at the time that offered the subject. And for more than 15 years, Neeta has been applying her skills and knowledge in the fields of interior design, furniture production, and bespoke projects.

Having strong ideas and opposing solutions are my best assets and liabilities

Neeta's team has grown from a small group of four to five people to over 150. Her pregnancy at the time she began, incidentally, just motivated her to work more. Since she first opened Inhabit 18 years ago, she has learned a lot along the way and turned it into a one-stop shop for clients looking for custom furnishings.

She was able to open a 7,000-square-foot business in Delhi because of these considerations. The National Capital branching out process was quite natural and provided a creative outlet for the entrepreneur. She continues, "It was a pretty flawless experience. Hyderabad is now a hub of innovation, yet even a few years ago, it preferred to play it safe. The Delhi shop thus provided me with a platform to experiment and learn.

Design as a philosophy

"You must believe in design to create a space." Innovation, or thinking of something original and not falling into fixed patterns or known norms, must be the foundation, the entrepreneur explains, adding that it is something formed in your head from a powerful root of aesthetics.
