The company hopes to capture the lion's share of India's estimated 160 MTPA steel shortfall over the next 10–12 years when demand is likely to surpass supply due to fast infrastructure development. Steel demand is expected to reach 300 million tonnes per year by FY31, according to the 2017 National Steel Policy paper, whereas the steel industry's current capacity is 140 million tonnes per year.

The company's top management is evasive about its actual capacity growth plans, but stock market analysts and industry specialists believe the corporation intends to go considerably beyond its intended 45 million tonnes per year by 2030.
